Theme: Pieces of a Portrait
When I bought my house in Jamestown, Stellenbosch, there was almost no garden. I had to start from scratch. Tilling the ground,
and removing the rubble. Within this process, I found these little gems, little pieces of ancient cups and saucers of a bygone
era. This process of working the gound, taking out the junk, en finding these beautiful little objects became a metaphor
for the heart. The lover of my Soul would reveal the junk, preparing my heart for new things that would be sown,
so that a good harvest could come in. The tares removed, so that the wheat could grow. And in the yielding to this
process, the gems would be revealed. These little pieces became a part of this process, and I worked it into this
portrait of me, revealing a deeper and hidden story.”
